Statement from NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee
The NSW Minerals Council acknowledges and thanks outgoing Deputy Premier John Barilaro for his outstanding public service during his time in Parliament, and in particular as minister responsible for resources during the last three years.
From the outset he clearly enunciated a vision to make NSW the number one destination for mining investment. Thanks to his efforts our state is well on the way towards this worthy goal.
His impressive achievements include the development and release of the landmark Strategic Statement on Coal Exploration and Mining in NSW, an improved and expanded Resources for Regions program for mining communities, the establishment of the Department of Regional NSW, and the recent release of the NSW Government's Trade Statement.
He has been a strong and effective advocate for regional mining families, with a clear understanding of the importance of mining jobs and investment to local economies and communities across the state.
The NSW Nationals’ victory in this year’s Upper Hunter by-election was in no small measure due to his credibility and reputation amongst mining families as a fighter for their needs.
He departs the NSW Parliament with our very best wishes for the future.
