McPhillamys Gold Project determination

Statement from NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee

The decision of the Independent Planning Commission (IPC) to approve the McPhillamys Gold Project is a welcome outcome that will support hundreds of new jobs in the Blayney region, half a billion dollars in capital investment, and millions in mining royalties for the people of NSW.

This is good news for the Central West region of NSW and for the NSW economy more broadly.

The Project will generate nearly 600 construction jobs and 260 operational jobs, over $500 million in capital investment and provide well over $65 million in royalties to the people of NSW over the life of the project.

This approval comes after over three years of rigorous assessment by the Department of Planning involving 21 NSW Government departments and agencies. This process determined the project could be approved with not one of the 21 Government agencies objecting to the project.

New metals mines like the McPhillamys Gold Project are critical to supply the metals of the future for a range of industries including health and telecommunications, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, defence, and transport.

NSW has an abundance of these metals and minerals, with a range of related mining projects in the planning pipeline, representing the potential for further positive development of our state’s resources sector,
