Mr Scully represents an electorate in the heart of the Illawarra, one of our vital mining regions, and has a solid first hand understanding of the contribution of mining to regional economies and communities.

Mining has a long history in the Illawarra and continues to directly employ over 1,500 people in the region as well as supporting thousands more jobs in nearly 700 local businesses that supply local mining operations.

We look forward to working with Mr Scully to secure a strong mining industry, strong mining communities, and a strong NSW economy.

The NSW Minerals Council also warmly thanks the Hon. Adam Searle MLC for his contribution over nearly four years as Shadow Minister for Resources.  Mr Searle was a strong advocate for NSW mining communities and his contribution was highly appreciated by our industry.  We wish him well in his new position within the Shadow Ministry in the important role of Shadow Minister for Planning and Better Living.
