New TV campaign highlights thousands of mining-related jobs across NSW

Mining is good for jobs, good for communities and good for NSW.  That’s the key message of a new campaign to be launched this weekend by the NSW Minerals Council to highlight the tens of thousands of people in NSW in jobs created by, or related to, the NSW mining industry.

Over 40,000 people across NSW are directly employed in mining, with tens of thousands more working in jobs that provide services to mining, including thousands of people in Sydney.

“It takes a lot of people in a lot of jobs to keep our mines going in NSW - thousands of people in thousands of jobs right across NSW, including thousands of people working in Sydney.”

“Our campaign introduces real people in real jobs in Sydney and in regional communities across NSW to highlight the contribution mining makes to jobs, including over 40,000 people directly working in mining jobs, and tens of thousands more people that work in businesses that supply services to our mines,” NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee said today.

As well as our world class miners, mining relies on thousands of people in a wide range of other jobs and services, including mechanics, manufacturing workers, accountants, chemical engineers, drone pilots, software engineers, lab technicians, environmental scientists, business analysts and many others.”

“There are thousands of people in thousands of jobs in mining or in related businesses in regional communities in NSW, including on the Central Coast, the Hunter, the New England region, the Illawarra and the Central and Far West of NSW.”

“Thousands of people in Sydney also work in a wide range of jobs that provide services to our mines and are also vital to the strength of our mining industry in NSW,” Mr Galilee said.
