Industry and Suppliers Awards to showcase the NSW mining industry

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro, the Minister for Resources Don Harwin, and many other Members of Parliament from across NSW will join mining industry leaders at State Parliament next Thursday 6 April for the Annual NSW Mining Industry and Suppliers’ Awards Dinner.

“Our Industry and Suppliers’ Awards is an excellent opportunity to acknowledge the vital role mining plays in NSW, particularly our economic contribution,” NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee said today.

“Whether it be those working directly in mining, or others employed in the many mining supplier businesses across NSW, tens of thousands of people rely on our industry for jobs and opportunity.”

“With coal, copper and gold our state’s most valuable exports, NSW relies on mining for our economic performance, as well as the royalty income mining delivers to the state budget. And almost everyone in NSW relies on our sector every day for the electricity generated by the coal we provide to NSW power stations across the state,” Mr Galilee said.

Support services company MRS Services Group, mechanical engineering company PJL Group, and Quarry Mining are all finalists for Outstanding Supplier of the Year.

Three exceptional NSW mines are finalists for Mining Operation of the Year. CMOC-Northparkes Mines has been nominated for its high quality copper mining operation near Parkes, Evolution’s Cowal Gold mine near West Wyalong is also a finalist, as is the Upper Hunter’s Mt Owen mine operated by Thiess.

This year, there are three finalists vying for the Exceptional Young Woman in NSW Mining Award - Chloe Piggford, Environment and Community Manager at Glencore’s Integra Underground mine, Judith Marks, Graduate Electrical Engineer and Vanessa Wowchuk, Scheduling Engineer from Rio Tinto Coal & Allied.
