Knights make their hi-vis debut at training session

June 05, 2014

The Newcastle Knights have taken to the pitch for a training session sporting their hi-vis jerseys for the first time in the lead up to a very special game day to celebrate our NSW Miners.
The NRL club, sponsored in this game by NSW Mining, will take on the Wests Tigers at the second annual Voice for Mining Family Day at Hunter Stadium on Sunday 8 June 2014.
The players were overseen at the session by supercoach Wayne Bennett as the team prepares to turn the tide on their recent results for a win this weekend.

If you can’t make Sunday’s event, you can still be a part of the action, as the game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports from 2pm. You can also listen to live reports on the days festivities by tuning into 105.3 New FM across the Hunter Valley between 12pm and 2pm.
And we’re encouraging miners and Knights fans to ‘Show us your Colours’ on game day. We’ve got prizes for people posting on Instagram using the hashtag #VoiceForMining.

We’ll also pick our best and brightest dressed “Hi-vis Fan of the Day” from the crowd on Sunday. The lucky winner will get a family pass to the Knights’ second hi-vis game this year against Parramatta at Pirtek Stadium on June 29th, to show the importance of mining to local jobs and the economy in Sydney.
Newcastle Knights halfback Tyrone Roberts says the team are looking forward to being back at home on Sunday and being able to celebrate mining, as it holds much importance for the Hunter region.
“Mining is a big part of Newcastle and it’s good for us to get out there and dress up in the bright colours, hopefully everyone will come out and enjoy the weekend with us!”
Our miners generate $3 billion a year for Sydney’s economy and support thousands of jobs in more than 3,400 Sydney businesses that supply our NSW mines. Now that’s something worth supporting no matter which team you follow. Let’s keep mining strong.
