NSW Mining welcomes Free Trade Agreement with Japan

April 08, 2014

“The announcement of a Free Trade Agreement with Japan is a welcome development that will build upon the longstanding and important trade and investment relationship NSW currently enjoys with Japan,” NSW Minerals Council, CEO, Stephen Galilee said today.

“Coal is the most valuable export commodity for NSW and Japan represents our largest market.  Almost half of total coal exports from NSW flow to Japan, highlighting the strong trade relationship NSW has with this valued regional trade partner,” Mr Galilee said.

“The important trade relationship NSW mining has with Japan underpins the new trade and investment opportunities for other industry sectors that will be fostered through this Free Trade Agreement.”

“We congratulate the efforts of the Australian Government in pursuing and securing this valuable international agreement,” Mr Galilee said.
