Community Weather Forecast Notification Project
The mining industry has funded the Upper Hunter Air Quality Monitoring Network to provide a better understanding of regional air quality. Operated independently by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, the network’s readings are available online, giving industry and the community access to this information in real time. Please click the link for more information on the Upper Hunter Air Quality Monitoring Network.
There’s also interest in the community in getting forecast information and predictions to help them prepare in advance for times when air quality could be poor. Given there are many sources of dust and factors that influence air quality in the region, The Dialogue has worked with experts, government agencies and the community to help facilitate the development of a Dust Risk Forecasting Scheme.
The Scheme has been developed by the NSW Environment Protection Authority and the Office of Environment and Heritage and recently concluded a trial period to model the scheme. The air quality in the region was found to be generally good during the period. The Dialogue will continue to work with the EPA and OEH as development of the Scheme progresses.
