Climate
change and the role for coal
 |
The mining industry
is committed to the research, development
and demonstration of technologies which reduce
greenhouse gas emissions, and actively supports
and collaborates with scientific researchers,
governments and power utilities, locally and
globally, to advance low emission technology
initiatives.
|
 |
The coal industry
is working collaboratively with Governments,
unions and the research community to find
genuine solutions to the threat of climate
change.
|
 |
The Australian
coal industry has committed $300 million
through the COAL21 Fund, to accelerate the
demonstration of world leading ‘low
emission’ coal technologies.
|
 |
Aimed at dramatically
reducing C02 emissions from power stations,
experts are confident that low emission coal
technology is economically and technically
feasible. There are several pilot projects
in place around the world for carbon capture
and storage and other new low emission coal
technologies are being trialled in Australia.
