Newcastle Knights and NSW Miners

We’ve launched a new partnership with the Newcastle Knights to celebrate the contribution our miners make to the local economy and community. And it all starts with our first Voice for Mining Family Day at Hunter Stadium on Sunday August 18, when the Newcastle Knights take on the Melbourne Storm.

This major community event will showcase the support for mining in the Hunter, especially amongst the almost 16,000 miners who live and work in the region and the many thousands more that work in companies that supply our mines. From manufacturers and mining technology firms through to retail, clothing and catering, they are all part of our industry and benefit from the $3.3 billion our mines spend with local suppliers in the Hunter each year.

Knights legend Paul Harragon supports our NSW miners.

The Hunter’s miners and the Knights are both a big part of the community. Many Knights players have a personal connection to mining, with family members working in the industry, like halfback Jarrod Mullen whose father is a miner. And of course there are many former players that are now proud miners too. Premiership winners like Bill Peden, Tony Butterfield and Adam Muir all work in our industry alongside other former players including forward Adam Woolnough.

The Voice for Mining Family Day is a great opportunity for Knights fans to show their support for two great Hunter teams – the Newcastle Knights and the Hunter’s miners. And it’s a great way for our miners to show their colours and the value of their jobs to the region and the state.
